Mary Shafer was born and raised in northern Colorado, and graduated with her first degree from a small college (now university) in Illinois in 1976.
In 2003, she continued her base of knowledge and received a Master of Arts degree in psychology from the Institute for Transpersonal Psychology (now Sofia University). Transpersonal Psychology is a positive branch of the field, also considered 'whole person' psychology. Certification as a Life Coach from the Academy for Coaching Excellence followed in 2006. Giving a host of practical tools to offer clients to assist them in creating lives of purpose and contentment. In 2017, she received the Institute for the Psychology of Eating's certification as an Eating Psychology coach, also known as a Body, Mind, Eating coach. Additionally, completing the Institute's Teacher, Leader, Presenter program. This psychology is also positive and is a 'whole person' approach. "Each degree was important for me to move forward in my own life and practice. I pull from this cumulative knowledge to best enhance the individual's path. Outside of coaching, I love to read, exercise, travel and volunteer with the Nebraska Humane Society. I currently live in Omaha, Nebraska with my husband and our rescue dog "Scruffy".
